Finding Historic Oregon Maps Online

One of the big challenges for researchers is finding old maps of Oregon. This class will review a number of online resources which provide rich map data for Oregon locations – some cases as old as Territorial period (before 1859!). This includes Land Office maps, historic USGS maps, navigation charts and more. Class will go into detail on how to use these online tools which can be complicated. The class will also cover how to find maps in State Library Collections and other library collections using Worldcat.org.

Attendees will be able to:

•            select and use the major online resources for finding historic maps for Oregon

•            know the basics for using online library catalogs to find maps

•            know how to use search engines to find historic maps

Attendees will also be familiar with other State Library services including eclips, etc.
